ASM AI Statement
AI is everywhere, Pandora’s box has been opened — there is no turning back. As creatives we see the multitude of dangers of machines replacing human creativity and expression, as a small team we see the benefits to workflow and productivity.
This is why we feel the need to make our stance on the matter clear: Artisan Spirit Magazine does not use or allow creative content generated by artificial intelligence in our publication. The words, photographs, illustrations are made or taken by a human hand.
Ways we will use AI: transcribing audio interviews, filtering large datasets, automating minor tasks, organizing information, graphing, charting, minor coding, and other workflow improvements. This limited use of AI will not take the place of any people or jobs, it will simply serve as added efficiency for our team.
We continue to be committed to our mission of sharing and celebrating the art and science of craft distilling. Artificial intelligence cannot create art, so we will not let it.
Contributor Policy
Artisan Spirit Magazine will not accept contributions from writers that use AI generated content.
You are more than welcome to use AI to assist your workflow while working with us in whatever ways you see fit so long as they do not replace your own human contribution.
Examples of acceptable use are as follows: transcribing audio files, pulling quotes from the transcription (and confirming accuracy against the recording), organizing data, deeper internet searches for verifiable information, organizing your own notes and talking points. It may also be acceptable to have it assist you in creating charts and graphs, provided they are not stylized. Please denote when charts and graphs have been crafted with the assistance of AI.
Examples of unacceptable use: writing articles for you (even if you alter the words to reflect your own tone and style), significantly altering your photographs (we understand that many phones and even Adobe products have integrated AI into color and lighting correction tools, that is unavoidable and therefore acceptable).
If you are ever in need of creative help, please reach out to our editing team for assistance instead of a large language model.
